All of these phrases or names are recognizable .Soon, Mack the Slew could join them as a name fully recognizable, at least within the racing industry.
The son of Pass Rush’s dazzling debut suggest that the sky is the limit. The professionalism he showed in his first start gave us a taste of his talent. He encountered trouble, but showed the mind and courage to overcome it.
Mack made his second start in the Hillsdale Stakes this past Saturday at Hoosier Park.
The betting public showed major respect for the Tom Proctor trainee, betting him down to 1-2 favoritism. He did not disappoint his supporters.
Unlike his first start, Mack broke cleanly and sat a stalking trip. Showing a new dimension, Mack sat in 4th through the early stages of the race. His pace began to quicken as they reached the top of stretch. Mack would find trouble, while moving on the rail, pinned down by two other horses, Artie’s Love and Prince of Time.Mack swung out late and found room to make his final move, he would make a menacing close in the final furlong. Mack glided over the sloppy Hoosier Park surface. He seemed to hit an extra gear, he would roll to a 1 ½ length victory in the Hillsdale Stakes.
Mack will most likely be making his next start in the Indiana Futurity on Indiana Derby day, Saturday, October 1st.
In my opinion, he’s won two sprints on just pure class, he’s a distance horse.
This colt, also boast Seattle Slew as part of his top flight pedigree, he is clearly bred to go long.
Indiana has had little, or no impact on the Triple Crown series since thoroughbred racing was introduced to the state in 1994. The aforemoentioned Pass Rush, and Snack are the only Indiana breds, in my memory, that have been on the Triple Crown trail. I know the following statement might sound a little naïve and unrealistic. But, I truly believe Mack the Slew will make his presence felt on the Triple Crown trail in 2012.
I believe, once Mack the Slew is given the chance to stretch out, his real talent will emerge.
Most people don’t realize that two year old Indiana breds get a late start. The first two year old Indiana Bred Maiden Special Weight race offered is at Hoosier Park in late August. Most talented 2 year olds see the race track in early summer. Indiana bred two year olds are at a disadvantage.
I’ve always dreamed of seeing an Indiana Bred in the post parade, under the Twin Spires on the first Saturday in May. I know, I’m dreaming a little bit, and my expectations might sound a little silly.
But, I truly believe, if Mack the Slew can improve and stay healthy, he will make the field of 20 in the 2012 Kentucky Derby.
Indiana breeding is finally improving. Swifty Farms has been in the forefront of excellerating the depth and quality of Indiana Breeding. Swifty has bred their mares to major sires, such as Seattle Slew, Street Cry, and Mr.Greeley. Mack the Slew is a product of Swifty Farms hard work.
I don’t regularly put myself into a position to be harshly criticized. But, with this statement I might put myself in that very position. Mack the Slew will go down as the greatest Indiana Bred to ever race. Yes, I said it after two starts in his two year old season. But, I have hope! Do you?

Alaazo, a graded stakes-placed six-year-old by A.P Indy out of multiple graded stakes winner Atelier, by Deputy Minister, has been retired from racing and will stand for $1,500 in 2011 at Swifty Farms in Seymour, Indiana.
Alaazo comes from one of the top families in the stud book. His third dam is blue hen Courtly Dee, who was 1983 Broodmare of the Year. His second dam is Grade 2 winner Aishah, by Alydar, the dam of Grade 1 winner Aldiza and a full sister to champion Althea.
Alaazo’s dam, Atelier, won three graded stakes and earned $741,114.
Alaazo won his first two career starts, breaking his maiden at Monmouth Park before stretching out to 1 1/8 miles and winning a Gulfstream Park allowance by 3 1/2 lengths. He finished fourth in the 2008 Haskell Invitational Stakes (G1) behind dual classic winner Big Brown.
“I am looking forward to giving Alaazo a chance at stud. He showed great stamina and talent early in his career and gave us a big thrill in the Haskell, our summer Derby,” owner Ahmed Zayat said. “We really believe in the Indiana program and will offer great incentives for breeders to support our two Indiana Stallions, Alaazo and multiple Grade 2 winner Eaton’s Gift.”
Zayat Stables purchased Alaazo for $350,000 during the 2006 Keeneland September yearling sale.

Indy, arguably America’s top stallion, is just a dream for us here at Swifty. Michael Tabor’s Grade 2 winner Pass Rush was named Indiana’s 2002 horse of the year in an awards ceremony on March 15 at Hoosier Park.
An Indiana-bred son of Crown Ambassador, Pass Rush finished first or second in seven of ten starts and earned $199,540 as a three-year-old last year. He won the restricted Benjamin Harrison Stakes at Hoosier on October 26 and finished second by a neck to Easyfromthegitgo in the Iowa Derby at Prairie Meadows. He also finished second in the NTRA Great State Challenge Classic Invitational Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park.
Pass Rush, who was also honored as Indiana’s champion three-year-old male, could be an early favorite for the 2003 Indiana-bred awards after kicking off his four-year-old campaign with a 3½-length triumph in the San Fernando Breeders’ Cup Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita Park on January 11 for trainer Patrick Byrne.
